How does Jesus invite us to belong?

If you’ve ever come along to Redeemer, you’ll know that being part of our church is about far more than just attending a service on a Sunday!

Members of our community put on a series of different events each week to help you find belonging and friendship in our favourite corner of west London.

But don’t take our word for it – there are references throughout the Bible to how church is not just a meeting to attend, but a family for you to be a part of.

Ephesians 2:19 is one example, where Paul says: ‘You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.’

You can also take heart from Hebrews 10:24–25, which encourages Christians to meet together and encourage each other – not just to receive from a preacher.

It says: ‘And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.’

And don’t forget 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, a popular piece of scripture which uses the analogy of a human body to show that the church is the body of Christ.

Teaching that we are all important parts of that body, it says: ‘Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.’

What are Gospel Communities at Reedemer?

At Redeemer Church London, Sunday services are the biggest part of what we do – as everyone gathers together to sing songs about Jesus and hear a talk about the Bible.

But there is so much more happening during the week – including Gospel Communities, our small groups that run in 20 locations across the borough of Ealing.

These weekly gatherings give everyone in our community the opportunity to make new friends and grow in faith together by chatting about God’s Word.

The groups vary in structure and size but they all follow the same study notes each week which are based on what we’ve heard in the previous Sunday’s sermon.

In the first few months of this year we were looking at the Gospel of Mark, so each week questions were provided to help us dig deeper into the specific passages.

For example, questions on Mark 15:40-16:8 included: ‘What difference does the resurrection make to my life and walk with Jesus? How will I begin to apply that?’

We want Gospel Communities to give everyone at Redeemer a weekly opportunity to worship, read the Bible and pray together – while also helping us to build community.

Week of Prayer

They say the most widely spoken prayer in modern life is simply “help me God”. All sorts of people say it, whether they believe in God or not. It’s a prayer which is prayed at different times, in different situations!

Personally, I find more time to pray early in the morning or later in the evening. It seems more natural to pray when I have time to reflect.

We know that God hears all our prayers and at Redeemer for a week every term we put a particular emphasis on meeting and praying together as a church community. Next week is that week!

Whether you are free in the evenings, or the mornings, or you want to get involved in our 24 hour prayer room, there is something available for you next week. Ealing is a very busy place, but I can assure you taking an hour out to pray with others will impact your week in a hugely positive way!

You will be welcome no matter what your situation, life experience or whether you believe in prayer or not. A prayer life can simply start with “help me God”.
